Report Says Elderly Care Not Good Enough..26th Sept-07

Cambridgeshire County Council has been accused of failing in the care of vulnerable elderly people.
A report by the Commission for Social Care Inspection shows that the quality of social services for the elderly in Cambridgeshire is improving but is still not good enough.
The inspection report says the county council, in partnership with the Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust, has made progress in improving services for the elderly. It is a significant step forward for the county council as the previous reports by the commission put it in the bottom 20 per cent of authorities across the country.

The inspectiion team interviewed staff, services users, carers and representatives from other organisations and given free access to service user files and systems operated by the council and PCT.
The report says that most elderly people find the staff supportive, and waiting times are reducing. Services broadly meet national minimal standards.
However the commision says there is still room for improvement - some elderly people are staying in hospital too long after treatment has ended and there is a lesser range of services available to people with mental health difficulties.

The report says there is a PRODUCTIVE PARTNERSHIP between the council and the PCT.............
